    Production years: 1959-1966

    The 2.4 & 3.4 litre cars stayed in production until 1959 when a substantially modified car, known as the Mark 2 was announced, at which time the earlier cars became unofficially known as Mark 1s.

    The Mark 2 benefited from a larger glass area and a wider rear track to improve handling and the looks. The new model was fitted with more chrome and a completely new interior layout. The Mark 2 was also available with a choice of three engine sizes, 2.4 litre, 3.4 litre and 3.8 litre.

    Production Years: 1962-1969

    In 1960 Jaguar acquired Daimler and with a need to increase sales to return that company to profit, a new model was devised based around the Jaguar Mark 2 body shell and trim. Called the Daimler 2.5 litre V8 saloon, the main difference was the fitting of Daimler’s own 2.5 litre V8 engine, mated initially only to an automatic transmission. With subtle trim changes including the use of fluted Daimler grille and boot badging, the car revitalised Daimler sales.

    Jaguar’s all new saloon for the late 1980s still carried the XJ insignia but heralded new technologies and increased sales.Jaguar had for some time been working on a replacement for the long-term production XJ6 and XJ12 Series models and the car (coded XJ40) was to be the most tested and developed model the company had produced up to that time.
